Upon your arrival at Limon port, your dedicated driver is ready to commence your journey with a scenic drive along the Caribbean Coast, Banana Plantations, and charming villages, ultimately leading to the Gandoca Refuge in the southern part of Limon near the Panama border.

The Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, located in the southeastern region of Costa Rica near the Panama border, is a designated conservation area. This sanctuary is celebrated for its exceptional ecological diversity, housing various ecosystems such as rainforests, wetlands, mangroves, and pristine coastlines.

At the heart of the refuge, discover a haven for nature enthusiasts featuring a rich tapestry of captivating flora and fauna. Renowned for its abundant wildlife, the sanctuary hosts a diverse range of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Expect to encounter fascinating creatures like howler monkeys, sloths, jaguars, toucans, and poison dart frogs.

Following the refuge visit, our exploration continues to the Ara Manzanillo Macaw project for an approximately 1-hour tour. The Great Green Macaw, an indigenous and endangered parrot species, is the focus of this mission.

The project aims to educate the public to benefit current and future generations by reintroducing macaws to their historical habitat, contributing to scientific research, and advocating for tropical forest preservation.

This tour promises an inspiring natural experience and is a must-see for any nature enthusiast visiting the Puerto Viejo area. After the Ara Macaw Tour, our journey takes us to Punta Uva, renowned for its crystal-clear, calm waters and beautiful coral reefs.

With its tranquil stretch of powder-soft sand backed by lush forest, the beach is an ideal spot to swim or relax. After enjoying a refreshing drink and swimming, we return to the cruise ship.

If time permits, we will visit some noteworthy highlights in Puerto Limon, such as the statue of Christopher Columbus and a panoramic view of Uvita Island, known as Isla Quiribrí, where Christopher Columbus landed on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast during his final voyage in 1502!
