Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge
The Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, situated in the southeastern region of Costa Rica near the Panamanian border, is a designated conservation area of great importance. This sanctuary is celebrated for its extraordinary ecological diversity, encompassing many ecosystems such as rainforests, wetlands, mangroves, and unspoiled coastlines.
One can marvel at this wildlife sanctuary’s remarkable array of plant and animal species. It is particularly renowned for its rich and diverse wildlife population, which includes a wide variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Among the creatures that may cross your path within the refuge’s boundaries are howler monkeys, sloths, jaguars, toucans, and poison dart frogs.
Additionally, this tour will include a visit to the Ara Manzanillo Reintroduction projects, which focus on rehabilitating parrot species like the Great Green Macaw.
Ara Manzanillo Project | Macaws
The magnificent Great Green Macaw, also known as the Green-winged Macaw (Ara ambiguus), is a sizeable and endangered parrot species native to Central and South America. These stunning avian creatures face various threats, including the degradation of their natural habitats and involvement in the illegal pet trade.
Conservationists and organizations have diligently implemented multiple strategies to protect and conserve this species, including reintroduction efforts. As part of our tour, we will have the opportunity to visit the reintroduction projects for parrot species like the Great Green Macaw at the Ara Manzanillo Project in Costa Rica.
In addition to this, our tour will also include a visit to the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and its breathtaking beaches.
